Good morning,
2Cor 12:9, “… My grace is sufficient for you……”
Hymn: “Amazing grace, how sweet that sounds that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost but not I am found. Was blind but now I see”. What so amazing about the grace that the writer of the hymn had just to begin it that way. Yesterday the message of grace kept on pondering in my mind heart I had to find out what it’s all about. Yes I know what it does but my question was, “What’s so amazing about it?”
The good news in the NT is God’s acceptance of us by grace alone. The word “GRACE” in Hebrew are hesed and hen which means undeserved love and favor. God is love, and grace is the out flowing of His love toward undeserving sinners. Grace is love in action. For God so loved the world that He gave (action word). We are making it because of the favor of God. Eph 2:8&9, “For it’s by grace that we’ve been saved through faith and not of ourselves, it is the gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast of”. I did not earn salvation by myself but by grace. Now you will say wait a minute Ev, I am the one who went to church that night, when they made the altar call, I said well since I am here and it doesn’t cost me anything to go to the front, I will go and kneel down and say the sinners prayer and I will be saved”. As you can see there are a lot of “It’s” meaning I did all until I gave my life to Christ. No, it’s God who drew you to church that day or wherever you got saved, He planted the right brought His conviction on you, place words of truth into your heart and He caused you to believe, He put a desire for you to go to the front and He got you saved by His grace. The bible says that a man cannot come to the Lord unless he is drawn of the Father, John 6:44. So we need to be reminded that we’ve been saved by the grace of God, grace fought for us in the courts of law when the judgment had been passed that we were guilty. Were it not for grace and mercy, we would still be dead in sin.
2Cor 12:9, “But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, my strength is made perfect in weakness”. This is a message that came to Paul while He was going through something that he did not understand. He had no proper words to describe it, he called it a thorn in the flesh. The bible says that he prayed three times that it would be removed and instead of God removing it, He gave him the grace to endure. The amazing grace will cause you to endure hardship, making you comfortable and not happy in the situation you are in. His grace is more than enough to keep you intact until He has rescued you. After knowing that His grace would keep him, he rejoiced in his infirmities as he understood that this too would pass. Lord if you do not change the situation and circumstances I am in, please let your grace be more than enough to keep me on hold position.
Heb 4:16, “Therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness that you obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. Already we have established a foundation about grace being a favor not something worked for or earned. Anytime we deal with grace, we understand that we have a debt that we need to pay but because of the favor of the Lord, we are exempt from it as Jesus paid it on the cross when He died. The grace of God makes it possible to be real. We can stand before God in our fig leaves, knowing we are accepted and beloved. Listen to this, the grace of God does not compromise the holiness of God but provides a way out. Now that we have been accepted as beloved we have been given the keys to access the throne of grace when we need mercy and grace to help in time of need. I always go to the throne of Grace for I am a working progress in this life being perfected everyday, growing in holiness. When you have grace, you will not disgrace yourself and the people around you.
To sum up, God in His kindness saved me a dirty wretched sinner by His grace through His Son without compromising His Holiness by providing a way out, that’s what makes grace so amazing. Would you like to share with me what makes grace amazing in your life?
Thanks
Evans
